Reviews about Burland Jewelry Center
- ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆March 08, 2019, by Stephanie MontemurroI have a very simple style engagement ring--a bezel set stone on a thin half round band. I took my ring to Burland to get sized down. Since the ring is so top heavy, it kept spinning on my finger and was driving me nuts. After reading through the reviews on Yelp, I decided on this jewelry center. I first spoke to Jay; he was very knowledgeable and polite. He input my information onto their work ticket and mentioned the sizing of my ring would take a week. I asked if they have an option to pay extra for rush. He said since the ring simple, the sizing would be quick--so he went to ask the jeweler in the back. When he came back, he said they could do it in 48 hours. I agreed to this time frame, took my portion of the work receipt and left. Two days later, I picked up the ring. Later that night I was showing my fiancé. We noticed that the band was not circular, but squished into more of an oval shape on one side. At this point, I wasn't upset--mistakes happen. The salesperson also mentioned how busy they were when I dropped off the ring initially; though, that is not an excuse for sloppy work. The following morning, I went back and saw the same salesperson. He was very apologetic and said they would fix the issue right away, I'd have it back the same day--they'd give me a call at 5 and I could pick it up that night or the next morning. He filled out another work order at no charge. The day passes and I don't get a call. I'm still not upset at this point--thinking they would give me a call in the morning. They opened at 10am on Saturday. At 11:45am I hadn't heard anything, so I called them to get a status update. The woman who answered the phone took my name and went to go check. She said the work hadn't been completed. I then mentioned Jay promised it would be done same day. She then went on to tell me she didn't see a note that it was same day turnaround and that the jeweler could work on it first thing Tuesday. At this point I was contemplating picking it up and taking it somewhere else. I weigh my options and decide to give them another chance. On Tuesday I receive a call to go pick it up. In this instance I am dealing with a woman named Amanda. The band is now round, but if you turn the ring sideways and look at the band, it was crooked. I pointed this out and she took the ring in the back. While she was in the back I saw their work order that was in the pouch with my ring. Hand written on the form was "Need today, Friday 10/28." I then hear hammering ; the jeweler hammered flat the tapered edges of my ring in order to straighten out the band. When she brought it back this time, the sides (from hammering without annealing [heating to soften] the metal) are now squared. I also notice that the band is no longer a uniform thickness all the way around. I point this out to Amanda. She then proceeds to tell me most rings are tapered in thickness for comfort. Well here's the thing...the tapered part is off center, so what point would that serve? And also, I MADE THE RING. The only reason I didn't size the ring myself is that I don't have the equipment to do so/not in school anymore. The ring band was created by a UNIFORM piece of 14K yellow gold, 12 gauge, half round wire. When I mentioned this, Amanda then said it could be from wear (I've been wearing the ring for less than 6 weeks total. Unless I have special fingers, I don't think gold particles miraculously disintegrate). To summarize, they did a poor job on something that should have been super simple for a supposed professional jeweler, they lied, and then they proceeded to create excuses as to why the ring now looks the way it does. I am unhappy with their work and the customer service I received. I will eventually be replacing the entire ring band myself since I still have material from when I made it initially! At least they didn't ruin my stone setting--I suppose that's the bright side. I would not recommend!
